Fabio Marchionni Makes Great Verdicchio

We love wines produced with the grape that noted Italian wine writer Ian D’Agata  asserts in his book Native Wine Grapes of Italy that “Verdicchio is arguably Italy’s greatest native white grape variety.”

Produced in two DOCs, in the provinces of Macerata and Ancona, Verdicchio di Matelica and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.

It was wildly popular in the US during the 60s and 70s, remember the fish bottled?

But too much of a good things became a bad things as winemakers let their quality drop.

Fortunately like other Italian whites, Pinot Grigio, Soave, that let their integrity falter, there is a resurgence in excellent wines made with the wonderful grape.  

Decanter Magazine recently listed their Top 13 Verdicchio from Le Marche.
