We've started a bit early, don't want our mates down under getting to far ahead of us. They already have had a 12 hour head start to International Sauvignon Blanc day, April 24, 2015.
It's 8:00 PM Eastern Time here in Garrison NY, and we are sitting back, relaxing, I'm writing, which is for me relaxing. Our second bottle of Nobilo happily consumed. Counting down, 4 hours to go.
A few weeks ago I got an offer from the generous folks at Nobilo to give two of their vastly popular Sauvignon Blancs a new look, well I thought "that'll be beaut mate."
Truth be told Nobilo has been a favorite of ours for over a decade, but she had become like an old friend that you think about but never get around to reaching out to say hello.
We have always loved Nobilo's everyday wine, their fabulously affordable and perfect for so many dishes, Regional Collection Sauvignon Blanc. We love it with all sorts of cheeses and bright salads, fish tacos, Indian cuisine and the list goes on. The last two foods noted we just enjoyed with this bottle. The tight screw top keeps the wine fresh Note: Available at Mid Valley Wines
You might wonder why call it "Regional?" Well you see the Nobilo family started making wine in New Zealand so many years ago, back in 1943. The vineyards grew over the decades and became one of New Zealand's largest. This wine is from their Wairau and Awatere vineyards in Marlborough, two of the four areas where Nobilo grapes are nurtured. Carefully grown and produced to make a consistently excellent wine it is always a winner.
As you must know, in the later part of the 20th century New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc captivated the world's wine drinkers. Nobilo was a major force and benefactor in that growth.
Not resting on their laurels, carrying on a passion for excellence, Nobilo sought to create even better New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. In 2002 the gifted winemaker David Edmonds took on the mission and the 2014 Nobilo Icon Sauvignon Blanc is a fabulous result of much hard work.
I'll let David speak for himself, but let me applaud all the efforts and say Happy International Sauvignon Blanc Day!
And also express how much we enjoyed this rich and sophisticated, gracefully balanced wine. Perfect with a big roasted chicken, browned and served with earthy root vegetables. "Sauv Blanc" can go with so many cuisines.
