Well almost any everyday Italian red will do, but if you want to make the meal spectacular try something like these two wines from Piemonte.
The Wine: Two well priced Nebbiolos, a Barbaresco and a Barolo $$$
The Food: Simple but very well prepared, Pasta and Meatballs
Places: Friends home in Little Falls, two famous Italian wine regions of Piedmont worth exploring.
There is real pleasure to be had in a simple dish like this, perfect if you want your wine to take center stage.
Piedmont, Piemonte, in northwestern Italy is arguably one of the world’s greatest wine regions. Here the noble Nebiollo grape thrives in the many DOCG and DOC sub regions of Piemonte .
Two of the most famous are Barolo and Barbaresco.
These two wonderful examples were found at Gary’s wines in Wayne.
The first wine we tasted was the Barbaresco made by Cantina Sociale of Produttori del Barbaresco. This cooperative, founded in 1958, is a shining example of the greatness of a collaborative effort.

Tangy cherry and raspberry aromas are lifted by flowers and mint on the cool, inviting nose. Silky-sweet and floral, with lovely inner-mouth juiciness to its red berry flavors. Owing to the wine's moderate body and flesh, the tannins show a slightly dryness but the long, juicy finish offers enticing floral perfume. A lovely, sharply delineated Barbaresco at a very reasonable price.-ST

Beautiful aromas of white truffles, plums and berries. HInts of spices. Full to medium body with fine tannins and beautiful licorice, berry and fennel seed. Very pretty length. Drinkable now but better in 2015.

The 2010 Barolo is a great introduction to the vintage. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, mint and cinnamon are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. Refined and polished to the core, the 2010 impresses for its exceptional balance, length and total sense of harmony. There is a purity and transparency to the fruit that is striking.

A pretty red with a lovely depth of dried-berry and lemon-rind character. Full to medium body with fine tannins and a juicy finish. Tangy and delicious. Better in 2016 but already delicious.
