While in Minneapolis, a trip you'll hear all about soon, I picked up these two beauties at the great Hennepin Lake Liquors for a dinner at home, my Minneapolis home.
One of those perfect combinations, like milk and cookies, root beer and pretzels, espresso and biscotti....
Home in Minneapolis is the cozy and comfortable digs of my brother and sister in-law, Dan Slager and Alyssa Polack, and their two sons.
Their son Piet writes a very good blog himself and you can read about the dinner there. Piet's Fabulos Food Homemade Bolognese Pasta
But on to the wines.
Pio Cesare is of course a wine maker of great repute. Founded in 1881their Barolo's are world famous. What they bring to simpler wine like Dolcetto is nothing short of wonderful. it delivers a fresh fruit filled wine, fragrant with plum and red berry, an very defined body and structure, that has all the spicy ripe fruit you expect from Dolcetto. All with a subtle restraint that compliments a dish like a vivid Bolognese with great finesse.
The Marchesi Di Barolo Madonna di Como Dolcetto d'Alba is another wonderful wine. It had more pronounced fruit with a bit of cherry. It has intense ruby-red color with lilac shadings. It has a nice dry flavor with low acidity. Another perfect food wine.
