Salugo is a quaint little italian trattoria and pizzeria. Don't ask me to say bistro, that's just plain wrong. We had a nice meal and some great wine.
We tasted a few dishes that I'd rate as good to very good. Certainly better than most places of this type.
We enjoyed two wonderful wines from Campanian wine maker Donna Chiara, their Fiano di Avellino and an Irpinia Aglianico.
When you sit, some nice foccacio is delivered to the table and the usual water offerings. The tap water is just fine, they must filter it, which I really appreciate.
As a starter we ordered the artichokes and the rock shrimp. Both were good, I just wish they did not have the same white wine and lemon sauce. Maybe the chef that night got it wrong as the dishes are described differently on the menu.
The Fiano paired quite nicely with both these dishes.
After that we had two pasta dishes which we liked, Tortellini with peas, pancetta, onions, and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. I felt the sauce was a little heavy. Also had a dish called Amatriciana of wonderful homemade long fusilli with pancetta, red onions and plum tomato sauce. I liked the Aglianico with this.
Service was great, staff is friendly.
Worth a visit to see what you think. I do want to try their pizza. Full menu is here.
