Buvette is a place that you would not be at all surprised to leave and find yourself on the left bank of Paris. It is a place of magic and fantasy.
Its story is told in a little book that you are handed when you sit. Inside is a treasure of food and wine of great delicacy.
The book, "Petit Repértoire Illustré", which artfully presents a "new approach to wine" and other blissful indulgences, it is created by artist Max Poglia and Chef Jody Williams. We used it well.
We have been an ardent fan of Jody Williams since her time at Il Buco in the late 90's and everything in between. To our heart Buvette is her greatest accomplishment to date.
I had a restoring glass of Albert Mann's exquisite Crémant d'Alsace Brut. A sparkling wine of lucious character from a vineyard that goes back to the Middle Ages. A perfect pour to help wind down from my day.
Wine Service is done from silver platters with grace and finess. The selections span the many wine regions of Italy and France, with an ample selection by the glass or carafe and many more by the bottle.
We enjoyed a delightful Primitivo, by Perrini, from Puglia, an area we are particularly fond of lately. A wonderful Bordeaux, Chateau Saint Julian, then a very nice Barbara D'Alba, Oddero, Piemonti and a wonderful white from northern Italy. Gosh what was it? It's in the book. Erbaluce di Caluso "La Rustia" Orsolani, Piemonte.
Buvette is very pleasantly dark so we could not get pictures of the wonderful dishes we enjoyed, but do try the Anchoiade, and the Poireaux en Vinaigrette. We also had a splendid "shepards pie" and some rewarding samplings of Buvette's frommage and charcuterie.
