We're Liking This Place More and More
I guess I have to admit we're barflys. Well not as bad as Faye Dunaway and Mickey Rourke in the movie of the same name. But, we love a good drink and some good food at the bar. It is so exciting that there are now so many choices in and around Montclair for this, Upstairs, Orange Squirrel, Bar Cara and others. Thursday night we had to choose and we decided to go to Pig and Prince again.
We've been attracted to Pig and Prince since we first heard of its opening. We’ve now been there twice since they began their soft opening in August, and have heard from a lot of friends.
Public expectations are high and we've heard some complaints. Overall we think Pig and Prince is great, room for improvement, yes, but on the right track.
The place is beautiful, the bar is excellent, and all the dishes we've had were exceptional, like this appetizing cured meat and craft cheese platter we enjoyed.
I started with a nicely made Manhattan with Hudson Manhattan Rye from Tuthilltown Spirits in Gardiner, NY.
Diana had an excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that she loves from Villa Maria, an award winning estate in Marlborough NZ.
The international wine list is well selected with over 20 wines by the glass.
There are many great offerings on the beer and spirits list as well.
Sarah, one of the bartenders is very knowledgeable and can make a good recommendation if you are undecided.
We tried, and thoroughly enjoyed, the roasted mushroom risotto with black truffle and the arugula salad with white beans, aged sherry vinaigrette and chipped granna padano cheese.
With these dishes I had one of their six craft beeers on tap, Ramstein Octoberfest, from New Jersey brewer High Point Brewing Company in Butler, NJ. Every fall I look to taste as many fall beers as I can. This one I really liked.
