Mano a Vino started back in November of 2005 with a humble post on our Thanksgiving wines that year. They were all by women in wine, noted female wine makers who have continued to be iconic in the field. Thanksgiving 2005 Wines By Women. The wines we chose for that day are just as good today.
When it comes to T'day our first thought is Champagne or other dry sparkler to start and Pinot Noir. In 2007 we suggested these two. But there are so many other wines to consider.
Riesling, Gruner Veltliner & Cotes du Rhone are some of the wines that come to mind. The style and influence of your Thanksgiving menu should have a lot of influence on your wine selection.

Check out Llai Llai Chilean Pinot Noir, our favorite so far and the delicious The Crossings New Zealand Pinot Noir. Both are very well priced for big Thanksgiving consumption. I would readily by a case of either.
This week we will be tasting a California Pinot Noir SCV from Sonoma.

Sparkling Whites to Start
Prosecco is a wonderful way to start your Thanksgiving celebration with a toast. It goes well with the starter dishes in the Italian dinners we have suggested. It is also wonderful with deep rich Autumn vegetable soups.
Two of our favorites are:
Prosecco Zonin by Casa Vinicola Zonin and Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco NV
For the main courses we would suggest a white of Soave and reds of Morrelino di Scansano, Brunello or Nero Di Avalo

For a red I would most likely look to a Pinot Noir that you can find in abundance. One we have liked that is from Napa is Bouchaine Carneros.
For a Spanish Influenced Thanksgiving
A friend suggested that "Albariño pairs well with an array of dishes and cuisines. Before attacking the turkey, offer guests a glass of crisp, bright Albariño with Spanish-inspired appetizers such as flatbread with Manchego cheese, onions, peppers and a sprinkling of Marcona almonds. A simple platter of sautéed garlic shrimp also makes a beautiful accompaniment to Albariño and won’t fill guests up before the main event. A versatile addition to any Thanksgiving table, fresh, un-oaked Albariño will please even staunch red wine drinkers." Courtney Schiessl
