It was so sunny and just warm enough yesterday to put down the top on the sports car and take a ride down to the beach.
We have wanted to check out some of the other beaches from Sandy Hook south to see if there was anything as nice as our favorite Sea Girt. We checked out Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach and Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch.
Seven Presidents is nice but we still like Sea Girt best. We were so close to Highlands, NJ that we just had to stop at one of our favorite taphouses Twin Light.
Did you know that while overall US beer sales are going down craft brew sales went up 11% in 2010 and are up 15% so far in 2011, Brewers Association.
I had a cup of a really delicious Tomato Bisque and we enjoyed some of Twin Light's wings "Taphouse Style" and their scrumptious tuna tartar which is with shallots, sesame oil, cucumber, wasabe cream and soy gelatin bits.
At the bar we made a new friend, Ken Harber, who owns the excellent Water Witch Coffee & Tea Co., on 67 Waterwitch Avenue in Highlands.
Water Witch proprietor is Nancy Tomaino, Ken serves as Pastry Chef, Barista Manager is Suzi Conley and Guest Baristas are Sam Harber, Cassie Filippone.
They serve the best fresh roasted coffee and fine teas. Water Witch is part of the The Baking Company which has been providing the freshest wholesale baked goods to many local and regional establishments for nearly 30 years. They supply great pastries to the coffee shop as well. You can find Ken's delicious baking at places like Sickles Market and fine restaurants in the area.
We had Ken's fabulous cheese cake with a chocolate topping, so fine and delicious.
Twin Light has three nice dinng areas and the places was filling up by the time we left.
For great beer and great food is very much worth a trip.
