King Estate in Oregon is well known for their wonderful Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and other varietals.
They also make a very fine raspberry jam infused with their Pinot Noir. King Estate practices organic farming and the jam is no exception.
We decided to pit King's jam against two other raspberry jams we had in our refrigerator in a crumpet taste test.
I am sure you would agree there is no better palette for tasting jams that a nicely toasted crumpet with butter.
The contenstants were Dickinson's® Cascade Mountain™ Red Raspberry Preserves, Trader Joe's Fresh Raspberries Preserves, and the King Estate Raspberry Pinot Noir Jam.
Frankly there was no real competition, the King Estate won hands down. Perhaps we should try it against Dickinson's® organic raspberry spread some day. But we doubt it will that make that great a difference.
The King Estate raspberries taste fresh and distinct. The product is simply not mass produced like the others. The sweetener is better too, Trader Joe's and Dickinson are using corn sweetenrs, where King is pure evaporated cane juice. The Pinot Noir wines helps a lot too.
King Estate says:
"The organic estate fruit in this gourmet jam is grown on the same fertile ground that produces some of the world’s finest Pinot Gris & Pinot Noir. Like our vineyards, our 30 acres of orchards and gardens are subject to sustainable farming practices and meticulous fruit selection. These jams represent a true collaboration between our culinary, winemaking, and gardening teams; fruit is grown under the watchful eye of Garden Manager Jessie Russell and made into jam using wine produced in our family owned winery. Together we continually strive to push the culinary envelope and create tasty foods from produce grown just outside the kitchen door. Enjoy!"
