Unfortunately QBA has closed. We wish them the best in their new ventures. They are looking for a partner to open a full table service venue.
I love Cuban food, but I never caught up to the QBA Truck as it made its way around Montclair winning awards like the Star Ledger's "Best of Season 2010" and rave reviews from street food lovers in the area.
So boy was I happy when I learned that they were opening a restaurant in Watchung Plaza. We had a quick dinner there this past Friday on the way to the movies and went away happy and satisfied.
QBA Kitchen lives up to its promise of being the "first and only premium Cuban quick service restaurant for great tasting “slow-cooked food served fast.”
We tried the Mojito chicken, white meat marinated in zesty garlic mojo, with black beans, rice and platanos maduros. Chicken was a little dry, but overall very good.
I loved the qba special sauces. I tried all three. They each have a marvelously unique medley of flavors.
We brought a Malbec wine and some Costa Rican beer. Wish I could get my hands on sone Cuban Beer. Any wine from Chile or Argentina would work well at QBA. I think a Torrontes would go very nicely with many of their dishes. Wondering where to find a good selection of Central and South American beer? Try Super Wine Warehouse in Paterson or Wine Country in Clifton, both have many to choose from, SWW has more.
The QBA Cuban Sandwich is not to be missed. I am always looking for a good one, here up North, having tasted some of the best in Miami. Qba's is great with sweet ham, qban pork, swiss cheese, and pickles on a delicious roll.
Also tried the qba’s guac & chips. Quacamole was good, but the qba’s flour tortilla chips were exceptional. More like a fried Pita chip than a standard tortilla, loved them.
The dining room is stark but brightly lite and has colorful art on the walls and cuban music fills the air. I think the music volume could be a little softer. The staff could not be friendlier.
Hey I just got what qba stands for.... I love this place. Can't wait to try more of their menu. I am getting really tired of hamburgers and pizza...
