It is less than a week until one of my favorite holidays, National Root Beer Float Day on August 6th.
It is a day to recall my fond memories of sipping ice cold floats at drive-in restaurants we loved to frequent. That great part of Americana is mostly gone. But we keep the tradition going by whipping up sparkling floats at home with a new twist.
Three-O Root Beer Float
2 oz. Three Olives Root Beer Vodka
4 oz. root beer (I like IBC or )
Float 1 scoop vanilla ice cream on top (Breyers Natural Vanilla is the best)
Root Beer Floatini
1.5 oz. Three Olives Root Beer Vodka
.5 oz. Amaretto liqueur
Shake hard over ice & strain into glass
Float a melon-ball size scoop of vanilla ice cream in center
Root Beer Cocktail
2 oz vanilla vodka
Root beer
Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Fill a pint glass with ice. Add vanilla vodka. Pour root beer in to the top and stir. Drop in your cherry and your are all set.
They are rare but you can still find places to get a real root beer float.
