This wine was discovered in a great tapas bar Tapas Adela in the Baltimore waterfront area called Fells Point. It is a delightful Chardonnay grown in the sublimely beautiful Casablanca Valley, Santiago, Chile under the guidance of Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle.
It is one of Lapostolle's entry level wines and at around $11 it is a wonderful every day wine. Her higher end wines sell for as much as $75.
The wine has a luminous light yellow color that glistens in the glass. There is plenty of tropical fruit, pineapple and peach on the nose with flavors of delightful citrus fruit and white flower and a touch of asparagus. There is some oak but this is not the overwhelming woody California style Chard. It is more French in nature with the fresh flavors that come from the rich terroir of this South American wine. It is full and mouth filling with sensuous acidity and a long finish. I also love the sexy new label.
When you take this wine out of the refrigerator let it sit open for 30 minutes or to let the flavors unfold and reach a warmer temperature, around 55 degrees is perfect.
We enjoyed it with a mushroom asparagus risotto we had for dinner. It is perfect for a wide variety of cuisines.
