We have been dining at Dia Kichi for over 20 years. We have seen it's ups and downs.
Dai Kichi, which means great fortune or blessing, was the first Japanese restaurant in Montclair, opening in 1988. Over the last ten or more years we have gained 7 more. We've been to them all.Recently they garnered Suburban Essex readers choice award for best Sushi. We agree.
Our dinner this past Friday was exceptional as always, the fish was beautifully fresh and wonderfully presented.
We enjoy sashimi and their sushi rolls. There is also a great selection of appetizers and cooked foods. The specials are always interesting as well.
Dai Kichi is expanding, opening a new second floor dining room which promises to be wonderful.
Dai Kichi opened its doors well before sushi gained popularity in Northern Jersey. The sushi experts have built a loyal customer base in the intervening years, many of whom have traveled for miles to sample some of the freshest sushi in a family-friendly atmosphere.
“This is a fun place to be,” says owner Aki Kaneda. “I appreciate that people voted for us, and I’m very proud to be recognized for what we do.”
