My friend Greg Calbi and I met up for drinks and had The Standard Grill on our radar but the place was packed and we weren't going to wait two hours. We wandered over to the good old Jane St. Cafe or The Tavern on Jane Street as it now known.
More than anything I loved the warm atmosphere, but the food and drink more than satisified.
The minute you step in the door you feel at home. The crowd is lively and seems to include a lot of regulars. Jane Street is a classic neighborhood bar that I wish there were more of. Our charming Irish waitress won my heart over in a minute with her friendly presence.
From the bar there is a good selection of european and regional draft beers and ales offered. We started off with Martinis. It was that kind of day. Then we switched to beer.
On the menu is a wide selection of reasonably priced items, your expected bar fare as well as many interesting appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and full entrees. On the blackboard are the day's specials.
We started off with two delicious soups, a vegetarian lentil, and a creamy tomato. They hit the spot on this cold night. Then we had the fish and chips complete with a tasty tartar sauce and malt vinegar.
The wine list is credible and fairly priced with a good selection of wines by the glass.
I'll be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

My buddy Christa Davis used to live off of Jane in Montclair. Small world but you probably don't know her. Anyways, looks like a cool place to drink vino! Cheers~
