We were looking for a restaurant before going to see Speed The Plow, the great David Mamet revival on Broadway.
There are so many choices walking up Ninth Avenue in the city and most were very busy.
Our first stop was at Five Napkin Burger. We have had that place on our list for some time, but there was an over twenty minute wait for a table for two. Our next stop was Hell's Kitchen a great "Nouvelle" Mexican place, but they were booked and could not offer a table for an hour.
Walked further uptown and came across a charming and friendly Mexican place called TaCocina. We decided to give it a try.
We started off our dinner with a couple of perfect Margaritas and delicious freshly made guacamole served in a Molcajete mortar bowl
The salsa and chips were also homemade and delicious. I had a simple dish, grilled chicken burritos and tacos with Broiled Pork Loin, very authentic fresh and tasty.
Diana had an appetizer called Aperitivo Mixto as her entree. It included mini chimichanga, quesadilla and tamal, and was served with guacamole, sour cream and jalapeno pepper anf mole, verde and red sauce.
They serve some of the best Mexican food I have had seen our last trip to Mexico.
The restaurant is warm and comfortable with a bar in front and dinining room in back. The walls are adorned with lots of Mexican art with many images of Frida Kahlo.
We were glad we got a table when we did because by the time we were ready to leave for the theater, the place was packed.

Hi Peter,
We saw Speed The Plow right before Ari Gold (ha! Jeremy Piven) got lead poisoning and bailed.
We saw the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Phila Museum last year and it was my favorite exhibit.
Just wanted to say hello.
We ate at a great restaurant last nt (pizzeria) in Maplewood. I did a blog post about it. It's up your alley!
Regards, Stacey
