Friends told of this delightful Thai restaurant in Hackensack, NJ. We decided to give it a try and were very satisfied.
Very good Thai has been elusive in Montclair, although I am hopeful for Spice II.
Dined at Sirin in Morristown a few weeks ago and the dinner was mixed, some dishes were very good and others just fair. Service was way off.
Bangkok Garden gets it all right. Delicious food, great service, nice atmosphere, and they have a liquor license so you can have a cold Singha with your dinner.
The menu here is very extensive and there are many specials.
The wine list is decent, with several name brand reds and whites, two Thai beers, Chang and Singha, I preferred the Singha. It is more full bodied.
We tried the two white Thai wines on the list, there were not so good. Next time I will go for one of the Trimbach wines the Riesling or Gewurztraminer, two Alsatian wines that go well with Thai cuisine.
Since it was our first time at Bangkok Garden we did not get too adventuresome in our choices.
For an appetizer I chose Tod Mun Pla which is a fish cake of "minced fresh water fish kneaded with chili paste, green bean, deep-fried to golden brown served with cucumber, sweet and spicy sauce and topped with ground peanut." BKG
We enjoyed the fresh distinct flavors of this dish. I frequently order Tod Mun Pla although it was not on the menu of the last three Thai restauraunts we have dined at, It was not the very best I have ever had, but quite good.
We were in the mood for a curry so decided on a favorite, Massamon Curry with chicken with potato, peanut and avocado, very nice. It was offered a spice level of one to ten. We chose a four, which was a good medium. Can't quite imagine what a 10 would be like.
Instead of our usual noodle dish, Pad Thai, we chose Kao-Pad Goong, Thai fried rice with shrimp. This was really incredible with wonderful clean flavors. The rice was perfectly cooked, so often fried rice is too gooey.
For dessert we tasted the sweet sticky rice with Mango. A perfect end to a great meal. Complimentary green tea was served.
