The upcoming Magnolia's Saturday afternoon tasting, 2 P.M. - 6 P.M. on 5/3/08. is featuring one of Italy's finest Soaves, a favotite of mine, Gini Soave Classico 2007.
The Gini family has roots in the Soave Classico region dating to the 18th century, and owns 50 acres of vineyards situated on the very best hillside position of the appellation. Golden hued and medium bodied, this wine is a superlative expression of Garganeca, the indigenous Northern Italian grape used to make Soave Classico. With white blossoms and delicate fruit on the nose, flavors of golden apple, pear, and a tinge of ripe lemon, it features stony minerality, bright refreshing acidity and lingering notes of honey. Serve as an aperitif, with light textured fish dishes, or pasta with white sauce. This wine was rated 88 points by Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate, and 89 points by the Wine Spectator.
