The new Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey "The Rock" is a wonder to behold. My son and I attended opening night for the NJ Devils. Although they got trounced by the Ottawa Senators we still had a great time.
The Arena has a restaurant, three bars, and many food concessions, Devil Burgers at City Grill, Famiglia Pizza, Primo Sausage, Newark Nut Company and more, even a Sushi Bar.
Arrived two hours before the game was to begin, the area around the "The Rock" was a sea of red and white Devil's jerseys. The two main entrances to the arena are via the PNC or Verizon Towers, the circular glass silo shaped structures on each front corner of the arena. these were mobbed with guests. Fortunately we found another entrance on the side of the building.
Once inside the concourses are very spacious on the second floor a bit tighter on the 3rd. The view from our second level mezzanine seats was amazing. Beautiful murals adorn the walls. Hockey jerseys from all the local high school teams are also displayed.
We dined at the "Budweiser Goal Bar." The bars are restricted to certain ticket holders. We had Gold Tickets so we got in. To access the restaurant or either of the two high end bars, Fire or Ice, you need to have "Club Seats." If you are not a season ticket holder, these can be had on Stub Hub or any of the other Internet ticket resale sites.
The "Goal Bar" looks out over the rink on a terrace. It offers a full bar and a "City Grill" which served up burgers, dogs, chicken, Nathan's Fries and the like.
Staff through out the arena were exceptionally friendly and tried to please.
Travel to the center was not bad. Mulberry Street in front of the center was closed. On the way out 21 was very backed up so we went out of Newark via Broad Street. There is a lot of parking and public transport is convenient at the center if you can find a link that is close to you on the other end.
Great addition to the Newark redevelopment effort, if you have the chance to attend an event their don't pass it up. You will have fun.
