Kings in Verona, the "Big Kings" in the Pilgrim Shopping Plaza is delivering an abundance of gourmet delicacies that should not be missed.
Exotic Meats, Fresh Fish, Great Breads and Pastries, Imported Cheeses, Interesting Fruits and Vegetables, and I can still buy my favorite toilet paper at half price.
Living in Montclair since 1988 I have been a Kings customer for some time, lived through the stores ups and downs. Competition from Whole Foods, and a new commitment to their "Passion for Food" has driven Kings to a new level of quality. While I love Whole Foods for many things they offer the staff needs much improvement. Lately I have been buying at Kings as my store of choice. They offer most of the natural and organic foods I need and much more.
Some of the goodies we have enjoyed lately include: Don Carlos Idiazabal Cheese sheep's milk cheese, Which we enjoyed with another favorite, Kings' "Festive Blend" olive mix, an assortment of olives you rarely find outside of NYC. Perfect with a bottle of Naja Verdejo.
With this we also sliced and sauteed some Palacios Chorizo. This stuff is so good I always keep a package in the cupboard, great for Paella, with an omelette or just as an appetizer. It can be hard to find down on a lower shelf, so ask for it by name. This Chorizo is made by an old family recipe and is the best I have ever tasted.
Another delicious item from another old recipe is Ines Rosales Sweet Olive Tortas
Around 1915 Inés Rosales got a 25 pesetas loan from one of her workers’ mother. She focused on one of the various recipes of the ‘aljarafe’ area in Seville, beginning to see the possibilities of a product called ‘torta de aceite’ (crisp aniseed wafer fried in oil). Read More
Incredibly flavorful and slightly sweet cracker, this Andalusian patisserie is produced in a village close to Seville. All hand made using the finest olive oils and almonds. Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. Ines Rosales
On another night we enjoyed a nice and runny but with texture sweet creamy, Il Villaggio Taleggio that went well with porcinni mushroom sauce we had over Pappardelle. The mushrooms were from D'artagnan. They were a little pricey but very good. Kings carries many of D'artagnan delicious pates, meats, etc.
I was excited to find breads from Amy's Bakery in New York. Usually we make a trip to Chelsea Market to buy her wonderful breads but now you can find some at Kings. The Semolina with Golden Raisins and Fennel, Amy's signature bread, is a favorite. The Rosemary Round, which they make for Balthazar, I believe, is also delicious.
When at Kings I also stock up on the staples of our household when they are on sales, Stewarts Root Beer, Cottonelle, Yogurts, etc.
You can find the weekly specials on line here http://weeklyoffer.kingswebsite.com/seeoffer.htm
Peter,
I am addicted to Ines Rosales Tortas with a hint of fennel, I have been eating them for years. My local cheese man sells them, they are so special with wine and cheese, or yesterday, with a swipe of peanut butter (I was starving and desperate!).
