Ligurian White Wines

Wine Library presents great diversity in wine selection. Wine from many countries and unusual grapes that you don't find in many stores. 

Here are two examples from the Ligurian section of Italy.

A Pigato and a Bianchetta Genovese.

I enjoyed both of these wines

Durin Pigato Riviera Ligure Di Ponente

"Pigato, "the wine made of sunshine", as some wish to call it, is doubtlessly among Liguria's noblest and most splendid white wines. "

"100% Pigato. Pale yellow/gold color. Aromas of yellow fruits, wildflowers, cut grass, and white spices. Clean, clear, and balanced in the mouth with a firm but not rigid structure carrying flavors of honey and minerals salts, and a lovely bitter almond finish." Wine Library

On the De Long wine chart Pigato is next to Colombard and Albarino. 

It took some time to open up, actually better the following day.

Fratelli Parma Bianchetta Genovese 2003 Golfo Del Tigullio

"Darkish gold color. This Ligurian white gives up zippy aromas of herbs and wild flowers and Mediterranean sea breezes. In the mouth the wine has good presence, revealing light tropical flavors and just a slight hint of butterscotch. The wine is fresh, generous, and spunky with a long lively finish. Would pair very well with full flavored fish and white meat recipes. " Wine Library.

This wine is a bit more full bodied. Both these wines are made for traditional Ligurian Cuisine. Delicious simple fare.
