Cocktails made with Sake are a great sipper on a hot summer evening.
Popularly called a Saketini, following the Martini fad.
Here are some of our favorite recipes.
Our favorite is the cucumber Saketini.
It can be made with just Sake or Sake and Vodka. Start a day ahead or the morning of your party. Wash and thinly slice 1 or 2 fresh cucumbers, use organic or the hydroponics from a good market.
Place them in a pitcher or carafe and cover with a good Sake and or Premium Vodka. If I am having a small party I may use a $20-$30 bottle of Sake. If it is a larger group I find Haiku, a less expensive sake, $10-$11.00 works just fine. For the Vodka I will use Grey Goose.
Let the cucumber infuse into the Sake/Vodka for many hours in your refrigerator.
Chill your martini glasses with crushed ice or in the freezer. This drink should always be served ice cold.
Test your infusion and add more vodka or sake to taste.
Pour and garnish with cucumber slice, radish, or a cherry tomato.
Another version can be made with Lychees or Mangos. This one is made in cocktail shaker and requires on advanced preparation.
Place crushed ice, 2 shots vanilla-flavored vodka, 2 shots sake, 2 tablespoons lychee syrup,
and optionally a splash grenadine.
You will also need 2 lychee nuts, for garnish
Chill 2 martini glasses. Fill a martini shaker with ice and add vodka, sake, lychee syrup, and grenadine. Shake to combine. Strain into the chilled glasses and garnish with a lychee nut dropped in each glass. Serve immediately.
You can experiment with Ginger, Lemon, and other ingredients.
