White Wine from Portugal

Last night we tasted a wine "Auratus" created by Marcial Dorado in the beautiful area called Seixas in Portugal.

We realy enjoyed this gem made with Alvarinho and Trajudura grapes. It is modestly priced, available locally for as little as $10, but most places sell it for around $13. Inexpensive, yet it tastes very sophisticated and is organically grown.

Favorite Wines Under $10

Expensive wines are great, but for everyday drinking I like to have a selection of inexpensive wines ready.  Here are some favorites that you may enjoy. And a long list from fellow posters at the Egullet Forum, New Jersey Food Forum.

L' Ecole No 41 Semillon and a Rainy Night Dinner

L'Ecole is a very interesting vineyard in Washington State. They produce well received wines year after year. We like their Chenin Blanc and tonight we enjoyed their "Barrel Fermented" Semillon.

Malbec - Altos Las Hormigas

 

Malbec is a grape originally from the  Bordeaux region of France. But in Bordeaux it is only used blended in small percentage in blends with other grapes.

In Argentina, Malbec's new home, the vineyard Altos Las Hormingas, among others, are producing wonderful wine with Malbec on its own.

Il Forno - Restaurant Review

Diana and I enjoyed another great dinner at Il Forno on South Fullerton. We were lucky to get a table as they are usually completely booked on the weekend. 

We have known Massimo, the owner along with his wife Ann Marie, since he was with Gina's Bakery.

We've always been a big fans of his bakery in Upper Montclair through its many renditions.

Il Forno has closed, the owners moved to Maine to open a restaurant there.

Alternates To Sake With Japanese

I almost always drink Sake with Japanese food, sometimes Japanese beer, but that is certainly not the only alternative.

I heartily believe that when it comes to wine you should drink what you like.

 

Panevino Restaurant Livingston

Had dinner again at Panevino in Livingston and it is still good. Since my office moved to Livingston it has been a frequent lunch destination, though it is often mobbed at lunch. And I did have dinner last spring out in their garden which is very pleasant. But last night's dinner prompted this post.

Enjoyed a glass of Banfi Principessa Gavi and a glass of Col D'Orcia Rossa Montalcino.

They have not arrived yet but here is a recent find I am very excited about.

Teroldego, a grape that is only grown in Trentino Alto Adige, becomes a unique wine you must try.
