Another fabulous meal here, Chef Brian Gregg is a true artist in his kitchen.
The Wine: Gerard BertrandGrand Terroir Pic Saint Loup oteaux du Languedoc
The Food: Exquisite Farm to Table with a Southern Persuasion
The Place: Escape Montclair, Bloomfield Ave, East of Church
It was our second time at Escape the new Farm to Table restaurant opened by Chef Bryan Gabby who with George Mandakas is turning out the food they like to make, what they call fine Southern cuisine.
On our way their we stopped at Montclair Wine Cellars across the street and picked up some wine from the South of France. Seemed fitting. This shop is owned by the people behind the Italian restaurant Accapello. It is small but offers a nice selection of well rated wines.
This blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre Craigan is classic South France wine with nice floral notes, red berry, thyme and a layour fo deeper flavors of licorice, and black cherry. It is well balanced and smooth and yet rustic.
It went well with these three dishes that we really enjoyed.
NY State Venison with Greens and Brussel Sprouts.
The decore at Escape is a work in progress, but we loved the rich quality of the plates, glassware and silverware. A clear commitment to quality.
Escape sources as many ingredients as possible from local farms so with the spring and summer harvests coming food here will only get better. We are so excited.
