New cool creative places seem to open every week in the greater New York City restaurant scene, which now is really happening in Brooklyn and Queens.
Fatty Crab is not new but always inspired, remaining cool and inventive through the years since it was opened in 2008 by star chef Zak Pelaccio. While we are always interested in trying new places, sometimes the schlep to outerborough destinations for exotic asian cuisine is too much and we often find ourselves happily dining at Fatty Crab in the West Village.
We started off with some great cocktails from their interesting menu, these four were each amazing, yes we do love our cocktails.
Lower West, vodka, cucumber, thai basil, toasted cardamom, lemon, ginger beer
Foreplay Cocktail, Aaperol, Yuzu, sparkling wine, grapefruit zest
Queen B, tequila, honey, yuzu, Creme de Violette
Black Gold, Rittenhouse bonded rye, SixPoint Diesel stout syrup, bitters, scotch mist.
We also loved this big bottle of Hitachino Red Rice Ale.
For dinner we worked our way through many delicious plates.
Our first dish was this amazing, Daily Candy pick, Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork. Out of this world, we'll have another.
Fatty Crab is dimly lit so my photos were not that great. We did really enjoy this Wonton Mee, shrimp & pork wontons with fried noodles in a hearty housemade chicken broth.
Along with these mouthwatering Wok Fried Greens with sambal belacan,a must-have Malaysian condiment, and shaoxing wine.
