Fourplay is a terrific Sicilian wine. A blend of four indigenous grapes.
25% Frappato Nero, 25% Nerello Cappuccio, 25% Nerello Mascalese and 25% Nero D’Avola. I love tasting grapes I never heard of.
Fun, inexpenisve, great with Southern Italian or Pizza.
This Sicilian red wine is a collaboration between the Tuscan estate Dievole and the Sicilian vintner Saro di Pietro, and was bottled in the Saro di Pietro Estate in Pachino, Sicily.
I am a few years late discovering this wine. Google "Fourplay Wine" and you wlll find dozens of reviews. Generally good, not rave reviews.
I enjoyed it and would be happy to take it to any one of our many Montclair, NJ Italian Restaurants

Read Peter Burwasser article, Southern Italian red wines provide experimental flavors on a budget. It is an historical irony that the wines of Southern Italy have been piquing the interest of connoisseurs in recent years.
Wine Tasting Notes
Fourplay is a worldly affair with the almost forlorn grapes of the third planet from the Sun. The Earth is in play to stimulate axial rotation away from all conforming formula-wines. Four grapes which are native to Earth's most distinguishable terroirs are paired at harvest to play the part of their most secret nature. The four forerunners of modern clones reclaim themselves in a wine that will never be definitely defined. Fourplay is born from a fourcycle pursuit: field selection, clonal selection, field blend vinification, propagation of mothervines.
Mario di Dievole and the Sicilian vintner Saro di Pietro, grower of the four selected grapes, are the two playwrighters of this wine. Their collaboration is overseen by Edmund J. Diesler, Director of the Union Internationale des Oenologues. Each Fourplay is numbered by origin. Fourplay N.1 is and will remain, over its future vintages, Sicilian. One Fourplay will occasionally call forth another Fourplay - each with a sequential number. And so a new playground of Earth will yield a new Fourplay with a new number. Each will be a first of its kind. Fourplay N.1 is born in the cradle of Sicilian Nero d'Avola, by the seashores of Pachino. Frappato Nero, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nero d'Avola are layered subtly in a 25% field blend, stimulating each other to create a wine beyond the ordinary, providing instant downy comfort and extreme softness to those who come close enough. The very essence of Sicilian passion, like hair set wild and free by Pachino's seashore-breeze. A joy to be shared, never imposed. A wine of today but invented - a culture, a supplement to two souls. Fourplay. It's good for you
"A playful and completely exhilirating combination of four native Sicilian grape varieties from the wonderful production by the innovative Tuscan estate Dievole. The wine delights with soft red and black fruit flavors that is spicy and bright on the nose and palate."
